Information BriefComplete Chipset Cut Costs for ISM BandCommunications Applications and Analog

Low Power CT-900 Cordless Phones

-Low cost solutions provide excellent performance

The MC13145, MC13146, and MC33411B provide all of the RF and analog

baseband functions needed for analog low power 900 MHz cordless telephones anddata applications. The only other integrated circuit required to complete an analogCT-900 phone system is an MC68HC05 microcontroller. These ICs can also be usedvery effectively in 900 MHz ISM band applications.

The MC13145 is a Low Power UHF Wideband Receiver Subsystem consisting

of an LNA, two linear mixers, Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO), second LocalOscillator (LO) amplifier, prescaler, IF subsystem, and a coilless detector. Thisdevice operates with a supply voltage as low as 2.7 V, and has a current drain of lessthan 32 mA. A power down mode reduces the standby drain current to less than 50 µA.

The MC13146 Low Power DC to 1.8 GHz Transmitter Subsystem features a

linear mixer with linearity control, VCO, and a dual modulus prescaler and exciter. This IC also uses a supply voltage as low as 2.7 V, and has a current drain of 25 mAat 1.8 GHz. Current drain in the powerdown mode is less than 60 µA.

The MC33411B is a 900 MHz Analog Cordless Phone Baseband System with

a complete expander/compressor for superior noise rejection, two PLLs for use withexternal VCOs and prescalers, a second LO and dual A/Ds to monitor batteryvoltage and RSSI. A variety of operational features are controlled through a serialMCU port, and power down modes can conserve power. The device is also targetedfor data radio applications.

TYPES OF APPLICATIONS

When used with an MC68HC05 Microcontroller, the MC13145, MC13146 and

MC33411B complete the chipset for a 900 MHz analog cordless telephone system. Onlyminimal external components are needed to complete a full CT-900 design.

The MC13145 Receiver and MC13146 Transmitter Subsystems may be used

in applications up to 1.8 GHz. The MC33411B provides the analog basebandfunctions for an Analog CT-900 phone.

The MC13145, MC13146 and MC33411B can all be used in Industrial, Scien-tific and Medical (ISM) band 900 MHz applications. Typical ISM band applicationsinclude wireless LANs, industrial remote controls, consumer wireless products, and full-duplex data radios with speeds exceeding 100 kbits/S.
