The gray-haired lady can’t wait to leave the building to search for her dad. Unless watched, she will walk in the streets in an effort to find her father, who died 30 years ago.
Not all cases of Alzheimer’s disease look like this, but Alzheimer’s is a serious disease that is said to be the fourth or fifth leading cause of death for people over age 75.
It is said that about three percent of the U.S. population over age 65 have Alzheimer’s. In the early stages, people may exhibit short term memory loss. Some may experience changes in personality, easy to be angry. As the disease progresses, patients might lose the ability to move and may be unable to speak or move at all. This progressive disease generally lasts 8 to 10 years before death occurs.
While no one is certain what causes these changes in the brain’s nerve fibers (神经纤维), their effect is certain. Alzheimer’s destroys not only the patients, but also spouses (配偶), friends and families.
What should you do if you notice progressive memory loss in yourself or a loved one? Have the person examined by a doctor who is a specialist in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Though many reasons other than Alzheimer’s disease may cause memory loss, its early diagnosis (诊断) and treatment may delay some of the most serious effects.
What feeling will you likely experience should a loved one suffer from Alzheimer’s disease? A person will often go through the various stages of sadness, shock, anger, and so on. If the spouse develops the disease, you may experience hurt and disappointment when he or she doesn’t remember you are married.
Life for the Alzheimer’s patients and their loved ones will never be the same as the disease progresses, bringing a deep sorrow, loss and even anger towards God. No matter what feelings are present, facing them honestly will serve one better than burying them.

What time is it? Most people are pretty accurate in their answer. And if you don’t know for sure, it’s very likely that you can find out. There may be a watch on your wrist; there may be a clock on the wall, desk, or computer screen; or maybe you’re riding in a car that has a clock in the dashboard(仪表板).
Even if you don’t have a timepiece of some sort nearby, your body keeps its own beat. Humans have an internal clock that regulates(调节) the beating of our heart, the pace of our breathing, the discharge(排出) of chemicals within our bloodstream, and many other bodily functions.
Time is something from which we can’t escape. Even if we ignore it, it’s still going by, ticking away, second by second, minute by minute, hour by hour. So the main issue in using your time well is, ―Who’s in charge?‖ We can allow time to slip by and let it be our enemy. Or we can take control of it and make it our ally. By taking control of how you spend your time, you’ll increase your chances of becoming a more successful student. Perhaps more importantly, the better you are at managing the time you devote to your studies, the more time you will have to spend on your outside interests.
The aim of time management is not to schedule every moment so we become all slaves of a timetable that governs every waking moment of the day. Instead, the aim is to permit us to make informed choices as to how we use our time. Rather than letting the day go by, largely without our awareness, what we are going to discuss next can make us better able to control time for our own purposes.
44. The underlined word ―ally‖ in Para. 3 most likely means somebody or something that is __. A. your slave and serves you B. your supporter and helps you C. under your control and obeys you D. under your influence and follows you 45. The author intends to tell us that time ______.
A. could be regulated by a timepiece such as a clock or a watch B. could be managed by the internal clock of human bodies C. should be well managed for our own interest D. should be saved for outside interests
46. In the next part, the author would most probably discuss with you ______. A. how to keep up with the times B. how to make up for lost time C. how to have a good time D. how to make good use of time
D
It is difficult for parents of nearly every family to teach their children to be responsible for housework, but with one of the following suggestions, you really can get your children to help at home.
If you give your children the impression that they can never do anything quite right, then they will regard themselves as unfit or unable persons. Unless children believe they can succeed, they will never become totally independent.
My daughter Carla's fifth-grade teacher made every child in her class feel special. When students received less than a prefect test score, she would point out what they had mastered and declared firmly they could learn what they had missed.
You can use the same technique when you evaluate(评价)your child's work at home. Don't always scold and give lots of praise instead. Talk about what he has done right, not about what he hasn't done. If your child completes a difficult task, promise him a Sunday trip or a ball game with Dad.
Learning is a process of trying and failing and trying and succeeding. If you teach your children not to fear a mistake of failure, they will learn faster and achieve success at last. 47.The whole passage deals with_______. A. social education B. school education C. family education D. pre-school education
48.The author thinks that_____.
A. there is no way to get children to help at home
B. the more encouragement and praise you give, the more responsible and helpful children will become

A. praise his success B. promise him a trip
C. give him a punishment D. promise him a ball game
50. The author advises readers to_______.
A. learn from himself, for he has a good way of teaching B. take pride in Carla's fifth-grade teacher
C. do as what Carla's teacher did in educating children
D. follow Carla's example because she never fails in the test 51. Having read the last paragraph, we can conclude that______. A. pride goes before a fall B. practice makes perfect C. no pains,no gains

Although most people know there are Seven Wonders(七大奇迹) in the Ancient World, only a few people can name them. This is because most of them are no longer there except the pyramids. However, there is a growing list of wonders of the world today. About nine years ago, UNESCO’s World Cultural and Natural Heritage (things that have come down to us from the past) List had 411 places and 136 countries were responsible to protect them, and the list keeps on growing.
Usually it is the task of a group of 21 experts to decide which places go on the list. The experts are chosen to work for six years. Their work is to examine and discuss the suggestions from different countries. They also manage the World Heritage Fund and have the right to decide what help to give to countries for protection work.
Over the past centuries a lot of cultural or historic places have been destroyed by man or nature. Protecting our natural and cultural heritage is a long and difficult task. Earthquakes, floods, pollution, wars, or even tourism are some of the dangers that harm this heritage.
When a historic place is in great danger, it is put on the World Heritage in Danger List and necessary things will be done to protect it. Places which are on the Danger List include Historic Bridges of Indiana, Elizabeth’s Hospital, Rosenwald School in Southern U. S., etc. 52. The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World include ______.
A. Golden Gate Bridge B. Sydney Opera House C. the Great Wall D. the pyramids 53. According to the passage, ______ may provide some money for protecting the cultural relics. A. UNESCO B. the World Heritage Fund C. the 21 experts D. some countries 54. Why does the World Cultural and Natural Heritage List keep on growing? A. There are more cultural heritages beginning to appear. B. More countries begin to build cultural heritages. C. A lot of cultural or historic places have disappeared.
D. More and more cultural heritages are in great danger. 55. Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. People can still visit the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World today. B. Rosenwald School is a newly built school in Southern U.S. C. More places will be added to the UNESCO list.
D. The list is decided mainly by the governments of different countries.
